  • Watch The First Episode of

    The Photographer's Voice.

Put the coffee on, take 20 minutes, and join me for the first episode of The Photographer's Voice. Keep reading to find out how you can see the rest and join me in a longer conversation about making photographs that aren't only better, and stronger, but truly your own.

  • Your Photographs Are Good,

But Are They Unmistakably Your Own?

When I was a kid, I was told not to touch photographs because I'd get fingerprints all over them. Never one to shy away from a good metaphor, that's exactly what I want to do with my photographs: to make images that are truly my own, and marked with my own personality. I made The Photographer's Voice to help you do the same.

This 10-episode video series is about putting your fingerprints—your own indelible mark—on what you make. It's about finding your voice as a photographer. It's about shooting, selecting, and stylizing bodies of work that not only say something but do so in a way that is uniquely yours.

"I have done workshops with other photographers about finding my style and I was none the wiser at the end. The Photographer’s Voice gave me the tools and the confidence to recognise my voice."

    - Claire Filson

  • The single biggest step forward my own photography ever took was when I began making bodies of work and thinking more intentionally about how I wanted those images to work together. I want to help you to experience that same change in your photography. I want to help you figure out what it means to shoot like yourself. Comprised of 10 video episodes (each about 20 minutes long), this series is about making photographs that are not only good, but your own.

    Way Beyond The Norm!

"The Photographer's Voice will be one of my top go-to resources! It's so refreshing to find an accomplished photographer willing to share their thinking and processes beyond the average "how-to" courses that seem to be the norm. This course is way beyond the norm! I plan to re-watch each episode (probably many times) as I begin to build out my own set of collections and series of photos. Thanks so much for the work you put into this course!"

    A Real Wow!

"Posting and sharing my work makes me anxious and queasy. I fear revealing how all over the place my photography is. The Photographer’s Voice teaches how and why our work is better envisioned, created, edited, developed, and presented in cohesive series of images. After watching the lessons, I took a small selection of images from my catalogue and applied what I learned. What was a “film roll,” became a honed series of cohesive images with the coveted “through line!” It’s a real “wow” to see a series of your own making! Thank you David!"

    I Learnt So Much

“The conundrum for many photographers is having confidence in your work and a clear sense of your own style. In recent years I have done a couple of workshops with other photographers about finding my style and I was none the wiser at the end. The Photographer’s Voice, gave me the tools and the confidence to recognise my voice by photographing what I care about and what interests me, and the choices I make in how I select and stylise my images. I learnt so much. Thank you, David!"

    Worth Every Penny!

"Brilliant course. After 2 long years stuck at home, you’ve got me excited about photography again.I’m already going back through my archives with a different eye, discovering themes and personal preferences I didn’t realize I had. I can’t wait to go back and watch the course again, because I’m sure I’ll pick up new ideas each time I watch. Worth every penny!"

    Light Bulb Moments

"With The Photographer’s Voice David helps us take the next step in the journey along the ridge between the how and the why of this craft and he keeps both sides in view throughout the course. I found this course really motivating and could immediately apply the lessons on colour and building series of images. But even more exciting was the light bulb moment of starting to see how to build coherence into long term, personally important projects. If you find you are stuck trying to go somewhere with the images you are generating, then I recommend you take a serious look at this course."

    - John Harrop

    Truly a Master Class

“After completing The Photographer’s Voice you will never think of color in the same way. Yes, color. While much of David’s work is B&W, he is also a master of color. In the Photographers Voice, David uses his unique method of expression to reveal concepts and techniques that you have probably never even thought of. You will learn the how’s and why’s of developing your unique photographic voice including using color to express yourself. This is truly a master class in self expression. Definitely 5 stars.”

    - Judith Putnam
